Steven had his first appointment with the pediatrician this morning. He is healthy and doing well...already putting back on the weight he lost in the hospital. He's back up to 9 pounds (He left the hospital weighing 8 lbs 11 oz....Momma's milk is good!). What little jaundice he had has cleared itself up. Mom and Dad asked LOTS of questions and got the reassurance that we weren't doing anything to royally screw the kid up...YET! All in all, this parenting stuff isn't rocket science, but I guess everything seems a little bit harder when you're running on little to no sleep. ...

We (Andrew, Meredith, and Steven) all made it home today around 1pm. Meredith's mom is staying with us this week to help in our first week as parents outside the hospital. If you'd like to stop by and see Steven and mom, please call ahead of time... thanks for understanding.
It's been a very long week. You may have noticed there weren't any posts since Thursday morning around 10am, just a few pictures uploaded to my Moblog, and none to the image galleries. I won't post the long story, but we had a family emergency that came up and I spent...

We officilly survived our first night of parenthood...with the assistance of the nursery and some good pain meds. :) We changed recovery rooms...again...at about midnight and sent Steven to the nursery so Mom & Dad could get a much needed hour of sleep before feeding time again...and again...and again. Steven spent his nap times in the nursery, Andrew sacked out on the couch in the room to keep Mom company and Mom slept in the bed...as good as you can sleep with tubes attachd to you. The morphine from the spinal has started to wear off, but...
Steven Daniel Connell was born at 11:30am EST today via c-section, about an hour behind schedule. Mom and Steven are doing great... she's already fed him one time (no issues) and had a diaper changed. For the details:

At today's doctor appointment, the sonogram tech indicated that Steven is going to be of weight XL and length XL... not to mention the fact he has broad shoulders. After talking over our options with the doctor, we decided to schedule a C-Section on Wednesday, January 26, 2005 at 10:30am. While not the ideal plan, we determined that this is the best option for both mom and baby's health and safety (mom and baby are in excellent health and size is the only factor).
